Getting the Edge

Field Equipment Station (FES)

The bleedingEdge FES acts as a wireless protocol converter, accessing multiple inputs and outputs and converting the information into a common IP-based protocol, accessed through a custom API via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

The FES can interface with all BACnet (MSTP or IP) and Modbus RTU devices through a serial port, and has up to 8 configurable I/O ports to switch or read inputs from devices with digital and analogue channels.

The FES intelligence is all software-based and can be configured and updated remotely for standalone operation or connected to the bleedingEdge BTS or similar automation servers.

Building Telemetry System (BTS)

The bleedingEdge BTS reads data and provides control to all the devices on your network. It can use existing central automation servers such as Schneider or Tridium systems, and can be hosted on servers on-site or in the cloud — scalable to accommodate any size project, from home automation to corporate offices and high-powered data centres.

Using a secured dedicated Wi-Fi IP network, our engineering teams can install and configure a bleedingEdge BTS in a fraction of the time of traditional wired Building Management Systems.

The BTS also allows for intuitive access via bleedingEdge apps on tablets and phones. Users can control equipment such as air conditioning set-points, fan speed, and scheduling, as well as interrogate operating conditions and action alerts from equipment not operating within its thresholds.

FES NB-IoT Upgrade

Take your existing bleedingEdge FES deployment to the next level with the NB-IoT Upgrade — purpose-built for remote and hard-to-reach applications where traditional cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity is impractical or cost-prohibitive.

Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) operates on licensed spectrum with outstanding building and underground penetration, ultra-low power consumption, and a fraction of the data cost of standard LTE. A single upgraded FES node can report telemetry, receive configuration updates, and raise alarms over a connection that costs cents per day — ideal for water meters, remote plant rooms, substations, and infrastructure spread across large sites or multiple properties.

The upgrade is a hardware module addition to the existing FES platform, requiring no changes to your BACnet or Modbus field devices. The bleedingEdge BTS automatically detects NB-IoT connected nodes and integrates them seamlessly alongside Wi-Fi and wired FES units — one unified dashboard, regardless of connection type.
